Introduction to Photoshop and Digital Imaging
Not so long ago it was imperative to have fluency with a word processing system and proficiency in typing. Today, basic digital imaging skills are just as practical. Whether your goal is to put together a flier or edit photos you’ll need to know a photo editing software. Photoshop is the best-known, professional program.
This class is broken into four one-hour sessions. However, individual, per-class coaching sessions are also available.
NOTE: This class is extremely limited due to the personal and direct attention given to all participants.
WEEK 1
Learn the logic and basic operation of Photoshop. We’ll focus on the most practical and useful tools. Together, we’ll discuss specific skills you’d like to learn as a class so we can focus on these for the remainder of the course.
WEEK 2
We’ll review last week’s overview of tools. We’ll work to address specific, common tasks such as cropping an image, compressing and optimizing an image for online use, and how to enrich your photographs with basic enhancements to an image. You will have online access to step-by-step instructions after our class.
WEEK 3
We’ll discuss file naming conventions and organized storage of your photo collection. We will also discuss third-party graphic and digital imaging tools that are helpful and/or less expensive for the novice user.
WEEK 4
We’ll review weeks 1-3 and proceed to more advanced digital imaging tasks and techniques. You will leave this class with basic Photoshop knowledge and recommendations for furthering your self-directed study. At my discresion I may recommend advancing students to
These individualized classes are based on those I taught at the New York Botanical Gardens. I draw on experience as a multimedia designer at Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment, successful freelance designer, and knowledge gained from a masters degree in Digital Imaging and Design from NYU.
Each class is one hour. This is a lecture-styled demonstration. You are welcome to bring your own laptop.
